Position: Human Resources & Labour Relations Leader
Location: Kapuskasing, ON – Papermill
Salary: $95,000.00 - $125,000.00 annually – experience dependent
Kap Paper is looking for an HR and Labour Relations professional who wants to make a meaningful contribution to the future of a northern Ontario manufacturing operation. You will work directly with mill leadership, supervisors, employees and union representatives in a highly unionized industrial environment.
The company is open to two types of candidates.
- Experienced Leader
o You may already have significant HR and labour-relations experience and be ready to assume the full scope of the role immediately.
- Developing-in-Role Leader
o You may be a strong leader in a unionized workplace who has built a solid foundation and is ready for broader leadership responsibility.
o What matters most is your listening skills, judgement, credibility, ability to work with people in an operating environment, and capacity to grow into the full role.
What You Will Do:
Depending on your experience, you will either lead or progressively assume responsibility for:
Providing practical HR and labour-relations advice to supervisors and managers;
Developing constructive and professional relationships with union representatives;
Interpreting and administering collective agreements;
Supporting and progressively leading grievance resolution;
Conducting or supporting workplace investigations;
Advising on attendance, performance, discipline and other employee relations matters;
Preparing for and participating in collective bargaining;
Supporting arbitration preparation and participating in proceedings as experience develops;
Coaching supervisors and managers to handle employee issues consistently and effectively;
Leading or supporting recruitment and workforce-planning activities;
Overseeing compensation, benefits, pension and related HR administration;
Supporting training, employee development and succession planning;
Ensuring HR practices comply with applicable employment, labour, human-rights and accessibility legislation;
Maintaining sound HR policies, records and processes;
Supporting organizational change and employee communication; and
Contributing to mill leadership discussions and broader business priorities.
What We Are Looking For:
Have post-secondary education in Human Resources, Labour Relations, Business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience;
Have practical HR, Employee Relations or Labour Relations experience;
Have worked in a unionized environment;
Understand how to work effectively with operating leaders and front-line supervisors;
Can handle difficult conversations respectfully and directly;
Exercise sound judgement and know when to seek support;
Are organized, responsive and comfortable managing competing priorities;
Are willing to be visible and accessible in the workplace;
Communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing; and
Are interested in continuing to grow as an HR and Labour Relations leader.
