Position: Superintendent – Thermal Mechanical Pulp
Location: Kapuskasing, ON – Papermill
Salary Range: $120,000.00 – $140,000.00 annually
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
Language: English, French is considered an asset.
5 years supervisory experience preferred.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Responsibilities:
Using an entrepreneurial approach, provide planning and direction to pulp mill manufacturing processes for the daily manufacturing of newsprint grade Thermomechanical Pulp (TMP) from mechanically ground chips, meeting standards in quality and production, while promoting and supporting the application of the Results Management Framework and working within a teamwork environment to maximize the profitability of the site.
Provide leadership to the operations crews to provide safe, efficient cost-effective operation of two lines of Thermomechanical Pulp manufacturing processes and systems, manufacturing 1050 tonnes/day as part of a pulping and newsprint operation.
Reduce the direct cost of pulp manufacturing by reducing costs while continually improving operations.
Establish and maintain staffing of TMP and chip unloading on a weekly basis by administering weekly crew line-ups and individual vacations and floating holidays.
Operate the TMP processes reliably and at capacity.
Identify, develop, implement, and monitor changes in process operating methods.
Continually improve the capability, efficiency, and resources of TMP manufacturing processes.
Investigate and act upon all operating issues.
Designate the equipment and priority for maintenance and formulate plans for effective repairs including providing availability of equipment.
Ensure all training manuals are updated.
Ensure proper operator training is carried out.
Conduct monthly safety and environmental meetings for each crew.
Ensure TMP pulp quality meets Paper Mill requirements.
Ensure all process equipment is in operational condition, consistent with good economics.
Apply the Results Management Framework to daily business.
Identify operations crew training and developmental needs.
Support other areas within the Newsprint Manufacturing Group.
Support the development of the TMP operating budget.
Maintain the TMP area within the operating budget.
Identify opportunities to reduce the operating budget.
Provide twenty-four-hour coverage weekdays.
Identify opportunities to reduce the Maintenance budget.
Provide input to Paper Mill management of pulp storage by suggesting appropriate furnish adjustments.
Investigate improvement recommendations identified by team members.
Report to the Mill Manager.
